3,000 years of tcm history
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a system of diagnosis and healthcare approaches that has evolved over the last 3,000 years.
The Chinese approach to understanding the human body is unique. It is based on the holistic concept of the universe outlined in the spiritual insights of Daoism, and it had produced a highly sophisticated set of practices designed to cure illness and to maintain health and well-being.
By analysing nature and natural processes the ancient Chinese were able to deduce key patterns and principles which occurred in all things and which could be used to understand and influence the factors causing disease.
two millennia of fundamental principles
Between 100BC and 200AD these insights were recorded and collated together in a book entitled The Yellow Emperors Inner Classic (Huang Di Nei Jing) which described the laws of Yin-Yang, the Five phases, the nature of Qi - or vital energy.
He applied these fundamental principles to the prevention and alleviation of illness. Over the next two Millennia thousands of books and countless medical practitioners contributed to the development of Chinese medicine.
In recent years there has been a fascinating confluence of TCM and modern science. Laboratories around the world are subjecting this ancient system to detailed scientific investigation and are providing yet another way of looking at how and why TCM operates as an effective source of medical intervention.
